The Council of Science and Technology of the Estado de México1 (COMECYT) has taken important measures for promoting the economic development of the state through the strengthening of science, technology, and innovation. FUMEC contacted its General Director, Elías Micha, for talking about COMECYT's experience in these areas.

1. “Estado de México”, which can be translated as “State of Mexico”, is one the 32 federal entities that comprise this country, not to be confused by the country of Mexico. To avoid confusion with the country, this state is usually referred by its full name.

When José Gaspar Martínez, beekeeper from the State of Tlaxcala, attended a course on best practices in apiculture, he never imagined this training was going to help him triple his honey production. Martínez is one of more than 650 beekeepers of all the country who have received training by the Food Safety Program of FUMEC.
